ICCS news:
ICCS was created in 1958 with the aim of providing a framework for cooperation in monitoring and developing church and school issues in Europe. It brings together representatives and experts from research, practice and policy working on Religion and Education.
Since 1994, ICCS has been registered as a charity in England and Wales, and that has worked well in terms of providing an effective structure for over 20 years. However, over the past few years, the ICCS Board has questioned the continued relevance of this charity structure for ICCS. There was a feeling that the official ‘home’ of ICCS would more appropriately be located on mainland Europe rather than England and Wales. In addition, in a changing world, the charity’s governing documents would need to be made fit for purpose for ICCS today.
Given this situation, in a special meeting in September, the ICCS Board, together with the Trustees, agreed to call a Special General Meeting of Members of ICCS on 3 December to propose and vote on the Resolution to dissolve the charity. ICCS members voted unanimously to approve that Resolution.
Now, ICCS will continue to explore the best way forward in terms of objectives, and the Board intends to meet in the first part of 2025 to discuss future developments further. The Board and members of ICCS are very grateful to the Trustees of ICCS, both past and present, for their energy and commitment to the organisation over the past 20 years of so. The ICCS Board looks forward to sharing further details and plans in the near future.
