EFTRE board member Sandra Cullen has published an article about RE in the Irish Times. Therein she discusses the importance of religious education in schools.
In Ireland RE had for a long time been instruction in a specific religious tradition (mainly Catholic). However, since the beginning of the new Millennium more and more syllabi have been developed for pupils of any faith. Unfortunately, it seems that the public discourse still revolves more around the question whether there should be faith formation or no religious education at all.
