The Evangelical Lutheran kindergarten partnership between Bavaria and Hungary has a long tradition. This year, from October 9-12, the 20th anniversary could be celebrated under the title “Music is God’s gift”. During the meeting, the participants observed in the Lutheran kindergarten of the Insula Lutherana in Györ and celebrated worship together. An interactive presentation of an interactive musical instruments by parents led by a music teacher took place in the Györ synagogue.
The focus of this continuing education program for Protestant educators was musical education and its importance for mental, physical and religious development. A singing and music teacher from the Reformed Károli Gáspár University introduced the participants to the Kodály method of teaching singing and addressed questions about kindergarten pedagogy. Adaptations of biblical stories by the emeritus religious educator Prof. Frieder Harz from Nuremberg and the theological reflection of jointly designed devotions completed the program. Personal contact and exchange on practical questions of kindergarten education were also not neglected, as well as cultural program with a guided tour of the city and a folk dance evening.
The conference was led on the German side by Sigrid Schmidts, speaker of the Protestant Kindergarten Association in Bavaria, and Pastor Susanne Menzke, and on the Hungarian side by Judit Hajnal Hallgátoné, a former principal in Györ, and Pastor Katalin Lázárné Skorka.
