IV news:
Cieszyn, Poland
This year our Polish friends invite us to Cieszyn in the South of Poland, near the Czech border, for our General Assembly. We appreciate it very much and will work on a special topic in this context. As Cieszyn is just 70 km away from the memorial of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we are preparing a pedagogical symposium on the topic: “Remembrance for the Future. New Ways of Holocaust Education and Combating Antisemitism in Christian Schools in Europe”. For this, we have found proven experts: Prof. Sonja Danner (University of Vienna) and Prof. Wilhelm Schwendemann (Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg) were both involved in an international research project on Holocaust education with 1200 teachers of Religious Education. We will also visit the memorial site during the symposium. Therefore, we will be together for one day longer than usual: from 2nd to 5th November 2023. The invitation and program of this special event will be sent before the summer break in order to communicate the names of the visitors’ group 90 days in advance, as required by the memorial. We hope for numerous participation, by IV-members as well as non-members!
