The 9th General Assembly of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) will occur in Sibiu/Romania from 27 August to 2 September 2024 under the motto ‘In the Light of Christ – Called to Hope’. Representatives of 96 Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed and United churches from more than 30 countries in Europe and South America, representing around 50 million Protestants, come together every six years to discuss theological, socio-ethical and church policy issues based on the 1973 Leuenberg Agreement. The 13-member Council and the three-member Presidium are also newly elected each year. The CPCE has also recently been granted official status as an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where it can lend its weight to issues of democracy and human rights.
The International Association for Christian Education (IV) and the Ecumenical Association of Academies and Laity Centres in Europe (Oikosnet Europe), together with a network of European education networks, want to deepen cooperation with the CPCE and will attend the General Assembly in Sibiu as observers.
